Arrival in Sevilla
We took a train from Madrid Atocha and arrived at 2.5 hours later at Seville Santa Justa Station. While on the train, we booked a free tour with heartofsevilla to begin at 4 pm. After checking into our hotel, the Gran Hotel Melia, we walked to the Metropol Parasol to meet our tour guide.
The “free” tour, like in most cities, is to pay by tipping your tour guide. It was a great way to get a quick over view of the city as well as some recommendations for restaurants, great tips/advice, and places to revisit after the tour. The tour ends at the amazing, Plaza Espana, built for the Ibero -American Exhibition of 1929. Probably famous in modern day times as the location for a scene in Star Wars and Game of Thrones.
After the tour, we walked back to the hotel and took an afternoon siesta. When in Rome (Spain)!
Our afternoon siesta probably lasted longer than we would have liked, but it was nice to stay out of the blazing spanish sun. We ventured out in search for dinner and arrived at a modern tapas restaurant, Overjas Negras. The food was amazing, great service and reasonable prices. My favorite dish was the ceviche, with white fish and calamari. The burger satisfied our protein needs nicely. We also had pork cheek with mashed potatoes and the pork belly nuggets.
After dinner, we walked along the main shopping drag near the restaurant, had some gelato and turned in for the night.
